Hello! I'm Chika Ezenwaka (RP.Qualifying)

Pre-Licensed Therapist

CanAfric Wellness is grounded in the belief that healing and personal growth are shaped by culture, identity, and lived experience. As a therapist, I bring both professional training and personal insight informed by my own experiences of navigating identity, culture, and belonging. This perspective shapes how I understand therapy and connect with clients exploring transitions, shifting environments, and evolving senses of self.

The name CanAfric reflects a meeting of Canadian and African heritage, representing a broader commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and cultural respect. This philosophy extends into practice, where each client’s story is approached with curiosity, openness, and cultural humility.

I recognize that each individual’s experience is shaped by a unique intersection of cultural, social, and personal influences. Whether navigating cultural expectations, life transitions, relational challenges, or trauma, therapy offers a space for exploration grounded in safety, respect, and understanding.

My practice is rooted in culturally responsive, trauma-informed care that emphasizes collaboration, empowerment, and sensitivity to lived experience. By centering clients’ voices, therapy becomes a space for meaningful reflection, healing, and growth.

At its core, CanAfric Wellness is a place of connection, where diverse identities are not only accepted but embraced, and where individuals are supported in making sense of their experiences while moving toward greater balance and fulfillment. Wherever you are coming from, and wherever you are in your journey, you are welcome here.

What are your session fees?

Individual therapy sessions are $140 per 50-minute session. Couples and family therapy sessions are $160 per 50-minute session

Are your services covered by insurance?

Coverage depends on your insurance provider and plan. As a pre-licensed therapist, my services may be covered under extended health benefits that include “Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) supervision” or similar categories. I recommend checking directly with your provider.

What types of clients do you work with?

I work with adolescents (12+), teenagers, and adults from diverse backgrounds. I have a special interest in supporting immigrants and individuals navigating cultural transitions, while also welcoming clients from all identities and walks of life. My practice is inclusive, respectful, and grounded in honoring each person’s unique experiences and values.

What concerns do you help clients with?

I support individuals dealing with a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, adjustment difficulties, relationship concerns, and life transitions. I also work with women navigating infertility, grief, and loss, as well as couples seeking to strengthen communication and connection.

What is your therapeutic approach?

My primary approaches are Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). These approaches are practical, goal-oriented, and focused on helping you develop effective coping strategies and meaningful change. I also integrate other evidence-based techniques depending on your needs.

How do I know if you are the right therapist for me?

Finding the right fit is important. I encourage you to reach out for an initial consultation so we can discuss your needs and see if working together feels like a good match.

Do you offer a sliding scale or reduced fees?

First Session

Welcome! Taking the step to start therapy is a powerful decision, and I am honored you are considering partnering with me. Whether you are navigating the unique complexities of the immigrant experience, managing a major life transition, or working through challenges like anxiety, depression, ADHD, infertility, or relationship dynamics, this is a space where your whole identity is welcomed and respected.

Here is exactly what you can expect when we sit down for our very first 50-minute session together:

  1. A Warm, Cultural Safety Net

First and foremost, this session is about building connection and safety. We will start by ensuring you feel comfortable. I deeply value your unique cultural identity and personal autonomy. You don’t have to leave any part of who you are at the door.

  1. Understanding Your "Right Now"

While we will briefly touch on your background to understand the bigger picture, our primary focus will be on what is happening in your life today. We will map out the specific challenges bringing you to therapy, whether that is a recent diagnosis, an ongoing struggle, or an adjustment to a new phase of life.

  1. Collaborative Goal Setting

Because my practice relies heavily on Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), we won't just talk about the problems. We will start looking for your strengths and solutions. We will identify what a "better tomorrow" looks like for you and establish clear, practical goals for our time together.

  1. Direct Insights & Psychoeducation

I don't believe in keeping therapy a mystery. In our first session, I will share some initial psychoeducation, meaning I will offer clear, accessible insights into why your mind or body might be reacting to stress, anxiety, or trauma the way it is. You will leave our very first conversation with a clearer understanding of your symptoms and a sense of direction.

A Quick Note for Parents: If you are seeking therapy for your child (ages 12+) or teenager, I typically spend the first 20 minutes of the initial session with both you and your teen together to discuss logistics and goals, before spending the remainder of the time building a private, trusting therapeutic relationship with your teen.

By the end of our first session, we will have a collaborative game plan tailored to your life. There is no pressure to have it all figured out before you walk in. We will figure it out together.
